Welcome to Santa Cruz CNPS
The California Native Plant Society (CNPS) is a statewide non-profit organization of amateurs

Main concerns to address:
#1 In light of the county's well written Sensitive Habitat Ordinance and the fact that the Soda Lake area meets and exceeds the definition of sensitive habitat, how is it that a project such as this mining spoils expansion by Graniterock has been allowed to go forward at all. The mine (which is located on the other side of the Pajaro River in San Benito County) can continue operation by trucking spoils offsite presents the appearance that a decision was made by the county that saving money for Graniterock (the county) is more important than saving an irreplaceable part of our county's natural heritage, and further, that such a decision has subverted rules designed to protect the public interest.
#2 From a CEQA perspective, which is being expressed by CNPS in its formal letter to the county asking for revision and recirculation of the current DEIR due to significant new information and lack of disclosure, any citizen could give comment to the county that the current DEIR fails to properly and completely disclose the biological nature and character of the Soda Lake site that will be buried by the expansion project, especially considering the significant discovery of 5 acres of a rare clover after the DEIR was published.
